Richard Schull (24 February 1929–14 October 1999) was a character actor in film and television for many years.
With his jowly look and somewhat raspy voice, he made a good curmudgeonly kind of character.
He had a silent part as the judge in the courtroom scene of Billy Joel's 1983 music video of the song Keeping the Faith.
He did a memorable and often-played commercial spot for United Airlines, as a constantly-griping customer, whose every complaint is deftly solved by the flight attendant, and who surprisingly tells her on arrival that he had "a very nice flight!"
He played the doctor/scientist in the movie Splash. He played the private detective in Spring Break 1983, currently on Hulu.
Originally from Evanston Illinois, he moved to NYC. In addition to acting he did commercials and voice overs for radio.
A comic actor Richard B. Shull attended Iowa State University. He made his first Broadway appearance in 1954. (1969's Minnie's Boys, a musical biography of the Marx Brothers, ). He entered films in 1971, in Klute, The Anderson Tapes and B.S. I Love You. He was featured on the weekly TV series Diana (1973) and Hail to the Chief (1985), and co-starred with John Schuck in the 1976 sci-fi sitcom "Holmes and Yoyo" as a robot policeman.
